South Pasadena, CA

The house being from the 1960’s had been added onto and renovated over and over and was not only extremely dark with a mix of aesthetics from a decade we would personally love to forget,  but lacked any visual connection throughout the house that would symbolize anything remotely mid-century.  By focusing on the two main original design elements of the fireplace and the adjacent full height large windows, it seemed clear that we needed to open things up entirely.  Doing this allowed the natural light to come flooding in from the east facing full height windows and provide a buoyancy to the entire first floor that had been missing.
