After several years in a cool little office building, it was time to say goodbye. It was time to move forward and get inspired by a new space. Time to reevaluate what works and what doesn’t work and make changes that function better and feel better. The result as we go through this chaotic process? At first I had a sadness and quite frankly a yearning to be in the old space…even though it didn’t fit anymore. It was the familiar and comfortable thing. Knowing that about myself and knowing I simply had to push through that first few days brought a new-found excitement. More enthusiasm from our team members. A new way of seeing the world around us, and of course it doesn’t hurt that we have a porch now and we can watch the sunset every evening. As we do this in our own space and feel a lightening in sprit with our visual surroundings, it’s reminding me of many of our clients as we start the design process. Many clients call us when they run out of space, or the spaces aren’t working for them any longer as their family has grown or as their living situation has changed. We help our clients assess what is actually important to them as we evaluate what their “wants and needs” are relative to their things, as well as how they live in and move through their spaces. It’s occasionally a fun experience for one family member and something another will dread, which is one of the ways we are most helpful. We guide our clients through this chaotic process and remind them that it really is ok to move forward. Honoring the past is good, but change is good too — and that doesn’t have to mean getting rid of everything…it’s all about taking the parts you love and transforming them into something better. HARVEST…to gather and transform.
